Hello! My name is Jack Verstegen, and I am the founder and owner of Heartwood Ventures, where I do a wide range of work including home inspections, handyman services, drone photography/videography, real estate sales, custom projects, and research and development.

I’ve always believed that one of the best gifts someone can give to the world is to do work that they are truly passionate about. That’s why I started this company; I wanted to be able to pursue any kind of work that I think is important and worth doing, and to do it in the way that I feel is right. The intent behind the work is as important as the knowledge and skills it takes to perform it, and my intent is to bring positivity, kindness, care, and creativity to all that I do.

The name Heartwood Ventures was chosen with careful thought and consideration, as the reasoning behind it is threefold:

First, the heartwood of a tree is the solid inner core that supports the living structure, the source of the tree’s strength. The beautiful grain patterns that develop tell the tree’s story, the ways that it reacted to its environment in order to create the best opportunities for life. Immovably solid and strong, adaptable, one-of-a-kind.

Second, as a material, wood is very close to my heart because it was my first experience with the world of making. I started woodworking when I was 15 and quickly developed a deep fondness for the craft. The mixture of artfulness and utility is almost unmatched, and the nature of the work is oddly calming for the mind. The act of creation has always been a source of peacefulness for me as my love for woodworking led me to many other disciplines.

And third, I chose “ventures” because it relates most closely to how I feel about the business. It captures the excitement that I feel about the opportunities that lie ahead, the work that I will do, the good that I can bring to the world. The adventure that will unfold.

Ultimately, with the many facets of this company, the core of it is the care, excitement, and passion that I have for all the work that I have chosen to do. In other words, the “heart” in Heartwood Ventures is my own.
